Spring has sprung and so has tax season! We know it can be overwhelming, especially with medical expenses to factor in.
A few things to remember:
- Medical expenses related to bladder cancer treatment may be tax-deductible. This could include hospital visits, surgeries, chemotherapy, medications, and transportation costs for medical appointments, so be sure to keep (and organize!) all receipts. BCC volunteer, Glen Mund, wrote a great blog post breaking down the Medical Expense Tax Credit. Read the full blog post here: A Guide to the Medical Expense Tax Credit for Bladder Cancer Patients in Canada.
- The Disability Tax Credit can help reduce the amount of income tax owed. We’ve broken down this tax credit in both a blog post and a webinar.
- Caregiver Tax Credit: If someone is providing significant care to a loved one with bladder cancer, they may be eligible for the Canada Caregiver Credit. To learn more, click here.
- You may be able to get your taxes done for free! If you have a modest income, you may be able to get your taxes done by a volunteer for free. To learn more, visit canada.ca/taxes-help. If you live in Quebec, visit: revenuquebec.ca/volunteers.
