Bladder Cancer One2One Peer Support Program

You are not alone.

Soutien par les pairs UnaUn pour les patients atteints d'un cancer de la vessie et les soignants

It calmed my fears knowing what was ahead.

• Peer Support Client

When facing a bladder cancer diagnosis, it is common to feel isolated, overwhelmed and burdened with thoughts and questions. Bladder Cancer Canada can connect you with a specially trained volunteer who has been in a similar situation and can offer unique perspectives and understanding.

I was just diagnosed when I spoke with a peer support volunteer. After our call, I felt like I wasn’t alone, and she helped me with my numerous questions. I don’t know what I would have done without the peer support I am receiving through Bladder Cancer Canada.

Peer Support Program

The One2One Peer Support Program provides comfort to bladder cancer patients and/or their caregivers through one-to-one phone conversations. While our volunteers cannot provide medical advice, they offer insights from their own experiences and can assist you in finding answers to your questions or concerns.

Common inquiries include what to expect, information on treatment options, details about side effects, and the pros and cons of various urinary diversion options. We can connect you with volunteers who have chosen different paths, such as one with a neobladder and another with an ileal conduit.

After speaking with a volunteer, callers often report feeling less alone and anxious, more informed about their options, and more confident in their decisions.

How the One2One Peer Support Program Works

Once you sign up for Peer Support, either via phone or online form, you will be matched with a peer who has faced a similar experience with bladder cancer. The matching process takes into consideration factors such as age, type of bladder cancer, gender, urinary diversion type, or the specific issue that concerns you the most. Once your request is received, we aim to make the match as soon as possible.
