A multidisciplinary group of healthcare professionals and patient advocacy representatives met virtually at the 2021 Canadian Bladder Cancer Forum (Forum).

This meeting focused on the promotion of bladder cancer research in Canada with updates on ongoing Canadian projects and the development of new research initiatives. The Forum followed 10 months after the launch of the Canadian Bladder Cancer Research Network (CBCRN), which convened a virtual translational research forum in April 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on research initiatives across the spectrum of medical specialties, and bladder cancer in Canada has been no exception. Despite the challenges, collaborative efforts have persisted, paving the way for renewed progress in the field.

How does CBCRN work?

Established in 2020 as a joint initiative with Bladder Cancer Canada, the Canadian Bladder Cancer Research Network (CBCRN) aims to advance the science and knowledge of bladder cancer, promote research, and provide training to improve prevention, treatment, and outcomes for patients.

CBCRN builds the capacity for clinical and translational research and fosters collaboration among bladder cancer researchers based on the findings from the data capture gathered from CBCIS. The knowledge generated is then disseminated throughout the broader bladder cancer community.

Bladder Cancer Canada’s Medical Advisory Board members are highly engaged in these collaborations. Work is currently underway to create the needed infrastructure to support CBCRN in achieving its mission.

What is the goal of CBCRN?

Through collaboration, the goal of CBCRN is to accelerate progress in bladder cancer research across Canada to inform advancements in the management of bladder cancer patients.
