Bladder Cancer Canada is honoured to announce a new support group for individuals living with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). This virtual support group will be hosted by Peter B, who was diagnosed with bladder cancer 5 years ago and is now cancer-free. The group will meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 7pm ET, with the first meeting taking place on April 8, 2026.
This group offers a space to discuss diagnosis, cystoscopy, TURBT, BCG treatment, and the unique challenges of managing bladder cancer at this level. NMIBC is treated very differently from muscle invasive or metastatic bladder cancer, and those navigating this stage of the disease deserve a dedicated space of their own. Participants will find a caring and supportive environment where they can openly share their stories, ask questions, and connect with others who truly understand.
About NMIBC
NMIBC is an early-stage bladder cancer that is entirely contained within the bladder and has not penetrated the muscle surrounding the bladder. Early detection and treatment play a critical role in achieving successful outcomes. Approximately 75% of bladder cancers are non-muscle invasive, and although recurrence rates can vary depending on an individual’s risk of progression, many people are able to successfully manage the disease with ongoing care and follow-up.
The Importance of Support Groups

- Tips on treatment, recovery, caregiving, and daily challenges
- Encouragement and reassurance from others with lived bladder cancer experience
- A meaningful sense of community, resilience and hope
- Access to additional educational presentations
A Word from One of Our Support Group Members
“I was pretty much shell-shocked after my surgery. When I went to the first support meeting, it felt like I could finally let go and breathe. The group was warm, friendly, inclusive, and positive. Each month, we share our issues and offer reassurance and practical help to each other, especially to those who are recently diagnosed. This group provides an essential source of emotional support to me.”
