At a recent Board of Director’s meeting, and on behalf of the board and the Medical Advisory and Research Boards, BCC chair Ferg Devins was pleased to present the Founders’ Award to his friend and colleague, Robert Purves.
The Founder’s Award is presented each year in recognition of BCC founders, David Guttman and Jack Moon, who formed BCC in 2009 in response to the lack of information and emotional support available to bladder cancer patients like themselves. Together, they contributed countless hours to improve the landscape for bladder cancer patients across Canada.
This award honours a distinguished volunteer for their passionate and visionary endeavors in multiple program areas or on a national level, which significantly impacts the advancement of BCC’s mission. Volunteers must contribute a minimum of four years of continuous service to be considered for this award.
“I’m delighted to say that in the last four months, this year’s recipient has certainly served more than the equivalent four years as he helped the organization transition to a new Executive Director,” says Ferg.
“This award is well deserved,” added Dr. Peter Black, chair of BCC’s Medical Advisory and Research Boards. Founders David Guttman and Jack Moon were also present at the presentation of the award.
Robert was very humbled to receive this acknowledgement and expressed his gratitude.
Many thanks to Robert for his efforts and commitment as Treasurer on BCC’s board of directors over the last few years and for his leadership through the first few months of 2020!
