Bladder Cancer Canada’s Volunteers

Volunteers at Bladder Cancer Canada (BCC) join our team for various reasons—whether it’s giving back after using our services, empowering others facing a diagnosis, advocating for those affected, raising awareness about the disease, or simply sharing their skills to fulfill our mission.

While all volunteers play a crucial role in our overall success, our support volunteers in particular bring invaluable lived experiences, hope, and optimism to individuals living with and beyond a bladder cancer diagnosis.

These dedicated individuals contribute their unique talents, skills, and knowledge to our community, helping us in raising awareness, providing support, and funding innovative research. Together, we are working to create a world where bladder cancer is just a memory.

Meet our Volunteers

Walk Event Coordinator
I am passionate about volunteering for BCC because I love seeing the impact a small group can make in such an important cause. Most of us volunteers are those who have never experienced bladder cancer and that is the most humbling part. With Thanksgiving just passing this long weekend, I think it’s appropriate to say I am thankful to be surrounded by those who are as enthusiastic as I am when it comes to bladder cancer awareness and support.

Board Director, Walk Coordinator & Support Group Facilitator
I feel giving back to an organization that does so much for me and other Bladder Cancer patients and caregivers is a shot I had to take. I have met so many great volunteers and bladder cancer survivors during my time with BCC it is hard not to want to be involved. They all inspire me to be better and do better.

Peer Support Volunteer & Support Group Facilitator
Six years ago, I found out I had high grade non-invasive bladder cancer. Specialist removed one tumour and I had BCG treatments for about 2 1/2 years. When I found out I had bladder cancer I had mixed emotions of fear and peace. I had no support group. I had friends I could talk to, but nobody that was dealing with bladder cancer and treatments. That’s why I turned to volunteering as a peer support volunteer, to provide one on one phone support to others dealing with this, and more recently, a Support Group Leader in Saskatchewan. I want to reach out to others who are going through bladder cancer, who need support and encouragement.

Special Project Volunteer
I love that BCC helps to support patients and fund important research! In volunteering with BCC, I am able to take on interesting projects, while increasing knowledge, spreading awareness and giving back to the community.

Student Ambassador & Community Engagement Volunteer
Volunteering with Bladder Cancer Canada provides a sense of purpose and fulfillment. It enables me to make a positive impact by advocating for better access to resources and improving the lives of individuals and families who have been affected by bladder cancer. Whether through fundraising, event planning, or simply lending a listening ear to those who are affected by bladder cancer, there are many ways to get involved and make a difference.

Data Entry Volunteer
Volunteering has provided an opportunity to give back to such a resilient community and make a difference in the lives of those affected by bladder cancer.

Peer Support Volunteer
I volunteer so that I can share with those hearing the very scary “you have cancer” statement my story, and the story of Bladder Cancer Canada. We let them know they are not alone and there are many resources to help them. Sometimes just sharing is enough to brighten a day. When we share the moments of our fears and our hope, it makes my day better. Volunteering has a way of helping you as much or more than any other single thing you can do.
