AMERICAN BLADDER CANCER SOCIETY

The American Bladder Cancer Society’s function is to raise awareness of bladder cancer among the general public and the medical community, to advocate through all means available the advance of research into a cure, treatment, early diagnosis and quality of life issues of survivors, to support bladder cancer survivors by providing community as well as by encouraging the concept of informed medical consumerism.

The American Urological Association (AUA), founded in 1902, is a professional association for the advancement of urologic patient care, and works to ensure that its more that members are current on the latest research and practices in urology.

BLADDER CANCER ADVOCACY NETWORK

BCAN – the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network – is the first U.S.-based non-profit advocacy organization dedicated to improving public awareness of bladder cancer and increasing research directed towards the diagnosis, treatment and cure of the disease. Founded in May 2005, BCAN is a cooperative effort among bladder cancer survivors, their families and caregivers, and the medical community.

URACHAL CANCER

The urachus is a small tube behind the belly button that connects to the bladder and normally shrivels away after birth. A tumour growing in the urachus is difficult to see and sometimes presents itself through blood in the urine. This extremely rare form of cancer accounts for 0.2% of bladder cancers.
