Why I Walk

Canada Walks for Bladder Cancer is a testament to the determination and resilience of individuals who have been affected by bladder cancer. As participants from across Canada lace up their sneakers to participate in this event, they join in our commitment to raise awareness and help fund bladder cancer research and patient support programs.

If you are a patient, survivor, caregiver, medical professional, or supporter, we all have a reason to walk. Every step taken during Canada Walks for Bladder Cancer exemplifies hope, unity, and a shared mission to make a difference in the fight against this underfunded and often overlooked cancer.

Together, let’s create a world where bladder cancer is just a memory.

“This year will be the 6th time I have taken part in Quebec City’s Bladder Cancer Awareness Walk. In fact, along with a few members of the Uro-Oncology group at the CHU de Québec-Université Laval, I am one of the instigators of this Walk in Quebec City. I have been involved in bladder cancer research for over 30 years, so I am directly aware of the cause, and it is important for me to get involved with Bladder Cancer Canada. I invite everyone affected directly or indirectly by this disease to join our Walk in September.”

– Alain B., Walk Lead, Volunteer & Bladder Cancer Researcher, Quebec, QC

“I walk for bladder cancer awareness. As I walked for cancer research years back, I was not even aware that Bladder Cancer Canada existed, until I was diagnosed myself. It was only due to a very observant doctor of mine that pointed out an irregular shape to my bladder. He immediately referred me to a Urologist, and the rest is history. I am one of the fortunate ones whose non-invasive cancer was found early, so I have a chance now to share the news and hope that I can help spread the word. My doctor saved my life. Can more people get checked before it is too late? Ask your doctor the right questions…please.”

– Wayne S., Patient & Walk Participant, Hamilton ON

“Recently, I have become an active participant in Canada Walks for Bladder Cancer. I wish I found the walks sooner, as it is important to help with the cause. The walks have been a wonderful experience. It has been good to meet others, old and young, and share their stories.

It is important that someone who has had bladder cancer and lived through the process explain it. I believe in spreading awareness and hopefully helping others.”

– Brian M., Bladder Cancer Survivor & Walk Participant, Toronto, ON

“The Walk provided me with the connections and support I was looking for. I decided to get involved and support people the way I had been supported in my journey.”

– Courtney S., Walk Co-chair, & Bladder Cancer Survivor, Calgary, AB
