Lisa McCabe was diagnosed with Upper Tract Urothelial Carcinoma (UTUC) in her right kidney in 2024, followed by a non-muscle invasive reoccurrence in her bladder in 2025 for which she is currently undergoing treatment. She learned about Bladder Cancer Canada in conversation with a medical oncologist who is a member of Bladder Cancer Canada’s medical advisory board. This is not Lisa's first encounter with cancer, having been treated for ovarian cancer and renal cell cancer on separate occasions.
Recently retired, Lisa spent her professional career in the high-tech sector working for global companies including IBM and Workday with a focus on software localization, data analytics, and machine translation/learning. While a seasoned manager of complex technical projects, Lisa also had a passionate interest in mentoring and supporting young women at the start of their technical careers.
Lisa now lives in the beautiful seaside community of Chester, Nova Scotia, where she continues to consult, rides her horse, plays guitar, and tends to her garden. She maintains a deep interest in emerging technologies and what AI can bring to the treatment of bladder cancer. Through her work on the board, she is eager to share an Atlantic Canada perspective, advocating for patients and community-based urology practices in rural areas.
