For more than 35 years, Alain has dedicated himself to translational and applied research in bladder cancer and, more recently, in prostate cancer. He completed his undergraduate studies in biochemistry at Laval University in Quebec City and then he completed a PhD in molecular and cellular biology at Laval University under the supervision of Dr. Yves Fradet, an internationally renowned uro-oncologist and researcher. He is now an adjunct professor in the Department of Surgery at Laval University and is mainly affiliated with the oncology axis of the CHU de Québec-Université Laval Research Center and more specifically with the Laboratory of Experimental Uro-Oncology which was founded by Dr. Yves Fradet in 1983. In collaboration with the other researchers in this laboratory, he is particularly interested in the development of immunotherapy for the treatment of bladder and prostate cancers. He is also interested in the biobanking of biological samples and clinical data which are extremely important for the advancement of research and the development of knowledge. In this field, he is notably involved as senior manager of the PROCURE Biobank, one of the largest prostate cancer biobanks in the world. He is co-author of more than 80 scientific articles describing the results of studies in bladder or prostate cancers.
Since 2018, with a team of other volunteers, Alain has organized the Quebec City Canada Walks for Bladder Cancer event every year. Alain has been leading Bladder Cancer Canada’s virtual Francophone Support Group since assisting with its creation in 2021. He also hosts webinars presented in French by Bladder Cancer Canada.
