Glen's mother was diagnosed with Non Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer in her mid 70's. A few years later Glen was also diagnosed and his mother drew his attention to the Bladder Cancer Canada website for support information and to join the Walk for Bladder Cancer. They were a little too late to get involved with the walk at that time but Glen noticed Bladder Cancer Canada was looking for volunteers so he decided to apply and shortly thereafter he joined the Board of Directors as Treasurer. Glen now also co-facilitates the British Columbia Patients Support Group and co-organized the 2022 Vancouver Walk for Bladder Cancer. He was very proud to participate in the walk with his mother and many friends and family.
Glen spends a great deal of time giving back to his community. He has volunteered with and for the Vancouver Marathon, several hockey associations, Bouquets for Baba, the One More Time Charity and St James Community Service Society. He had been involved in Minor Hockey as a coach for over 30 years and has also been a manager, a tournament coordinator, a board member and President of his local minor hockey association. Covid and a hip injury ended his time with ice hockey. His cancer diagnosis in late 2020 along with trying to find a new charitable passion led him to Bladder Cancer Canada.
Glen's background in accounting leaves him well suited for his role as Treasurer with BCC. He started his career in Public Accounting and was involved in accounting and audit engagements with several charities and not for profits. Eventually he moved into Controller and CFO roles and then started an Accounting and ERP software implementation firm in Vancouver which specialized in implementations for Charities and NFPs. He sold his business in 2019 and semi-retired but still does some ERP consulting work from some of the largest charitable organizations in BC and Canada.
Glen is a sports enthusiast. He loves hockey and attends his adult son's and Vancouver Canuck games when he can. He also plays golf frequently and enjoys reading and spending time with his family.
