Dr. Zlotta received his MD from the Free University of Brussels in 1989 and completed his Urology specialization as well as his PhD in Immunology in the same University. He worked as a Uro-Oncologist in the Department of Urology, Erasme Hospital, University Clinics of Brussels until 2006. In 2006, Dr. Zlotta was recruited to Toronto where he was appointed, and is currently, a Professor in the Department of Surgery (Urology) at the University of Toronto, Director of Uro-Oncology at Mount Sinai Hospital, Sinai Health System, staff surgeon at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre – Toronto General Hospital/ University Health Network. He is an Associate Editor of the Bladder Cancer Journal and an Editorial board member of Scientific Reports, a Nature Journal.
In addition to being a surgeon, Dr. Zlotta is currently performing translational research in bladder and prostate cancer, focusing on genetics and biomarkers often in a multi-institutional, international setting where he has authored over 300 scientific papers.
Among other awards, he has received the Matula Award and the Platinum Award of the European Association of Urology.
